Moraga Garden and Yard Upgrade

"I see a lot of “fine” yards in my work, and spaces that look okay but rarely get used," according to Laura Osteen of Secret Garden Landscapes. Many homeowners buy their homes for the outdoor space, yet it ends up being overlooked. Sometimes a few updates can help, but other times a full transformation is what really makes the difference. At Secret Garden Landscapes, our goal is to create outdoor spaces people actually enjoy using.
When I first visited this yard, the homeowners admitted they hardly spent time outside. Aside from their kids using the trampoline, the space sat empty. They wanted a backyard where they could entertain and relax as a family, plus they came with a great wish list to make that happen.
An outdoor kitchen and inviting gathering space were at the top of the list. By replacing a failing wood retaining wall, we were able to open up the yard and create room for a larger patio, kitchen, and seating area near the house. We also added an outdoor TV, making it a natural spot for hosting and game day get-togethers.
With three active kids, it was important to create a space that worked for everyone. We moved the trampoline to the opposite side of the yard, giving the kids their own zone to play freely. A smaller lawn and a casual dining area nearby gives them space to hang out without running through the main entertaining area.
The side yard, once an eyesore visible from inside the home, became a standout feature. With plenty of sun it was the perfect place for raised garden beds and espalier fruit trees, for hands on fun.  With new pavers, refreshed fencing, and updated plantings, the space now feels clean, open, and inviting, ready for everyday living and easy entertaining.
