A Designer Who Puts People at the Center of Every Kitchen

Dalia Nishimori

Dalia Nishimori has spent more than a decade helping Lamorinda homeowners transform the
spaces where family life actually happens. As the founder of Studio Nish Interior Design, based in Lafayette, California, she brings a rare combination of formal training, luxury hospitality experience, and deep local roots to every kitchen and bath project she takes on.
Her path to residential design was anything but conventional. Dalia began her career in luxury hotel management with Four Seasons Hotels in New York, a role that took her across the country before she landed in Las Vegas for the opening of a new property. It was there,
watching interior designers work through the final build-out, that something clicked. She
returned to school, earned her degree in interior architecture from the California College of the Arts, and went on to work with architectural and design firms in San Francisco on projects spanning law offices, hospitality spaces, and private residences. When she and her family relocated to Lafayette in 2013 to give their children the Lamorinda school experience, she stepped out on her own to focus on what she loved most: residential interiors for local clients.
That decision has shaped everything about how Studio Nish operates. Rather than relying on templated solutions or trend-driven shortcuts, Dalia leads clients through a thorough, in-person design process built around listening. She visits homes, walks through the existing space, and
takes time to understand not just what a homeowner wants aesthetically, but how they actually live. Detailed questionnaires and inventory reviews help surface practical needs alongside wish-list items, and the result is a design tailored to the people who will use it every day.
"It gives me such joy to hear stories about new ways families are cooking together in their kitchens or entertaining friends and how functional and supportive the space is to their family life"; Dalia shared.
Studio Nish handles kitchen and bath projects from initial space planning through final CAD construction drawings, with complete selections for appliances, fixtures, and finishes. Dalia works closely with trusted local contractors and vendors throughout the Lamorinda area, and she is most at home collaborating alongside architects, general contractors, and skilled craftspeople as part of a cohesive project team. That collaborative approach, she believes, is what keeps construction running smoothly and helps clients feel confident in every decision
along the way.
Her advice to neighbors considering a remodel reflects the same philosophy: invest in the design process early and let it unfold fully. Layouts studied in advance, cabinetry options
weighed thoughtfully, and fixtures chosen with intention don't just produce beautiful rooms. They prevent costly surprises once construction begins. The homeowners who allow that process to develop, she notes, consistently come away with the greatest confidence in the final result.
For Dalia, this work is personal in more ways than one. She and her family have called this corner of the Bay Area home for 25 years, and the community ties run deep. Two of her children have grown up attending Campolindo High School, where she has cheered on athletes and admired the school's music program with equal enthusiasm. The warmth of Lamorinda, familiar faces at the grocery store and the easy sense of neighborliness, is precisely what drew her family here, and it is the same warmth she brings to every client relationship.
