Meet the Millers: A Newport Hills Family with Deep Roots and a Passion for Community

For the past 24 years, Warner and Tucker Miller have called Newport Hills home, fostering a deep connection to both the neighborhood and their community. Warner, a reference librarian for K&L Gates, and Tucker, an author, speaker, and executive coach, have been married for 32 years. Together, they’ve raised two children, Matthew and Meredith, who have since ventured out into the world while maintaining strong ties to their roots.

Matthew, a graduate of Washington State University, now resides in Tacoma with his wife Lacee and their lively two-year-old son, Briar. Meredith, a Cal Poly graduate, has spent the last few years embracing her love for travel, exploring the far reaches of the globe.

Though life has taken their children in different directions, the Millers' home remains a central hub of family gatherings and special occasions. With Tucker’s parents and sisters nearby, the family frequently enjoys time together, particularly during the holidays. “My husband and I still laugh about the time when our son, Matthew, was four years old and throwing a fit in the yard,” Tucker recalls fondly. “Santa happened to drive by our house, and Matthew was so worried he’d be put on the naughty list!”

Tucker and her family moved from Ballard to Newport Hills to be closer to her parents, who were living in the neighboring Pembrook community at the time. Warner, who grew up in the area, had long been familiar with the region, while Tucker’s early years were spent moving frequently due to her father’s military service. After living in states from Colorado to Arizona, her family eventually settled on Mercer Island, where she completed high school and later earned a BA in business from the University of Washington. Tucker went on to attend Willamette College of Law in Oregon, and it was through the Washington State Bar Association that she met Warner. Despite a ten-year age gap, their shared experiences, including military fathers, brought them together.

While the Millers’ professional lives have taken them in different directions—Warner as a librarian and Tucker as a coach and author—they’ve built lasting ties in Newport Hills. Tucker launched her business, Onward Leadership, in Bellevue, offering coaching services to clients across the country. Her experience working in the legal department at Safeco Insurance and later in employee relations paved the way for her career as an executive coach. After years of traveling for work, she published her first book, The First Four Words: A Fresh Approach to Starting Conversations with Ease and Confidence. She enjoys sharing her insights with podcast audiences and continuing to develop her craft as an author and speaker.

When they’re not working, the Millers love to explore the neighborhood’s natural beauty. “Warner and I are avid walkers,” says Tucker, adding that they enjoy spending time on the Newcastle Trail system and visiting Lake Boren Park to take in the views of Mt. Rainier. They’ve become regulars at local favorites like The Coalman, Aji, Resonate, and Loco Chon. The Bellevue Botanical Garden is also a beloved spot for unwinding and connecting with nature.

As active members of their community, the Millers have found countless ways to engage with their neighbors and contribute to the neighborhood’s sense of togetherness. Warner’s love for bike riding has become a family tradition, with Matthew and Meredith often joining him on local rides. For Tucker, knitting is a passion, and she’s even attended the Flock Fiber Festival in Seattle. They are also proud members of the Coal Creek YMCA, where their kids spent summers at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island—experiences that Meredith later cherished while working as a staff member.

Over the years, the Millers have found Newport Hills to be the perfect place to call home. From the wildlife in their backyard to the warmth of their long-time neighbors, their favorite part of living here is the strong sense of community that only grows stronger with time.
