Anderson High School senior, Cayla Mosby, has been dubbed December’s Athlete of the Month for her outstanding performance and leadership on the basketball court. A four-year varsity starter and superstar in the post, Cayla has been an integral part of her team’s success while also excelling academically and in her volunteer work. Her passion for the game and commitment to serving others continue to inspire her teammates and community.
Nathan: “What do you love most about basketball?”
Cayla: “I love how anything can happen in basketball—no matter the score, you can always make a comeback. The energy and momentum shifts keep the game exciting.”
“Tell us about your favorite memory you’ve had playing basketball.”
“One of my favorite memories was defeating Bastrop to secure the district championship at the end of the regular season. The Bastrop gym was packed with fans standing everywhere, and it felt amazing to show everyone we could beat the seventh best team in the state (5A) twice.”
“What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced, and how did you overcome it?”
“My biggest challenge was balancing academics and my social life with playing three sports—volleyball, basketball, and soccer—while also competing in club basketball with Texas Elite. It was a lot to manage as a freshman, but I overcame it by focusing on basketball full-time starting my sophomore year. That decision allowed me to give my best both on the court and off the court.”
“What do you like to do outside of your sport?”
“Outside of basketball, I lead the DreamCatchers Chapter in Austin, an organization that fulfills end-of-life dreams for hospice patients. My role is to find patients in the Austin area with dreams and help make them happen. I also organize volunteer opportunities for members, including visiting nursing homes and writing letters to veterans.”
Cayla Mosby’s love for basketball and devotion to helping others showcase the qualities that make her a true role model. Beyond the court, she plans to major in finance and eventually work for a non-profit organization using her skills to help others and make a lasting difference. As she prepares for her final high school season, she continues to lead her team and inspire those around her.
