Meet Anderson High School Football Star, Ed Small

Two words: Generational. Talent.
Those two words sum up Ed Small as well as any other combination in the English language
would. Ask anyone in Northwest Hills, I bet they’d agree. He’s starred on the gridiron (and the
diamond) since stepping foot on campus as a freshman, putting up school records in effectively
every receiving category you can think of. He was committed to Texas Baseball as a freshman,
but decommitted to pursue his dream of division 1 football, subsequently signing with TCU.
Here’s what he had to say about his high school career and more:
Jack: What’s your favorite memory or moment from Trojan Football?
Ed: My favorite moment was playing [La Porte] in the playoff game this year. It was a lot of fun
and was a goal of mine at the beginning of the year.
Jack: Why’d you pick TCU over all of your offers?
Ed: I chose TCU because of the coaches and the environment. The coaches were the first to
believe in me and constantly made me feel important. The school and campus feel like home,
and I feel like it is a really good situation for me in the future.
Jack: Who are your biggest football influences?
Ed: My biggest influences are my parents. They have helped me throughout the recruiting
process and have taken me to all the camps and tournaments that I have played in throughout
my life. I owe a lot to them for where I am today.
Jack: Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Ed: Consistently work hard. If you stay the course and do your best more than everyone else,
then you will become better than them.
Jack: What are you most looking forward to in continuing your football career?
Ed: I’m most looking forward to battling for a spot next year and enjoying college.
Small leaves Anderson as Austin ISD’s all time leader in receiving yards after racking up over
3800 of them the past four years. He also scored almost 60 total touchdowns in just about every way imaginable: passing, rushing, receiving, returning, a Pick 6(!), Small did it all. He’s ranked as a 4 star recruit and a top 450 player nationally by 247sports’ composite rankings, and I’d venture to say he’s still underrated. He’s arguably the Trojans best athlete since the turn of the millenia, and should have his number retired by the school by the time we’re back for our 10
year reunion.
