Roots and Wings: The Kush Family's Life in Oakdale

Meet Jake, Lexi, Dominic, Jacob, Summer and Walker

Jake and Lexi Kush have lived in Oakdale for the past fourteen years. Originally from the bustling Bay Area, the Kush family found their way to Oakdale allure of a slower pace of life, perfect for raising a family and fostering community ties. Even after brief stints away, they always find their way back.
Jake and Lexi's love story began in an unconventional yet modern way—on Match.com. Jake proposed to Lexi in his first message in a move that surprised many. This bold gesture set the tone for their relationship, characterized by spontaneity and a deep commitment to one another. Jake, a trade school graduate specializing in HVAC, currently serves as a senior superintendent for a concrete company. Lexi, with an associate degree in applied science and medical assisting, chose to become a stay-at-home mom to focus on raising their children.
Their children, each with unique interests and talents, are a source of immense pride for Jake and Lexi. Dominic, their eldest at 16, has played football since he was seven. He recently took his driver's test in July, marking a significant milestone in his journey to independence. Six-year-old Jacob has been a baseball enthusiast since age five, playing for the local Oakdale Baseball and Softball Association (OBSA). Summerjo, their four-year-old, is already showing promise in the arts, taking ballet and tap classes at Studio Movement dance company. The newest addition to the family is three-month-old baby Walker, who is sure to follow in his siblings' active footsteps.
Jake, a jack of all trades, is always busy with projects around the house. He is also an exceptional cornhole player, always impressing friends and family with his skills. Lexi, on the other hand, is passionate about health and wellness. She loves juicing and maintains a holistic lifestyle, ensuring her family enjoys nutritious meals. They have two pets: Arizona, a ten-year-old German Shepherd, and Rex, a one-year-old rescued kitten.
Oakdale's community events and traditions significantly influence the Kush family's lives. The Fourth of July is a major celebration featuring a big barbecue and a spectacular fireworks display that they eagerly anticipate each year. Thanksgiving is special to Lexi's heart, as she enjoys cooking the entire meal for their extended family. Her favorite dish to cook and eat is yams, a staple at their festive gatherings.
Apart from these holiday traditions, the Kush family loves to engage in various local activities. They are fond of the Oakdale rodeo, which they attend regularly. Last summer, they enjoyed attending chamber concerts in the park, particularly enjoying a performance by Valley Fire. Next, they look forward to exploring the local breweries around town.
Thursday nights often find the family cheering on Dominic at his JV football games, soon-to-be Friday night lights! Saturdays are special when the family gets to watch Jacob at the OBSA baseball games and supporting the local sports community. Despite the busy schedule of raising a family, Jake and Lexi make it a point to enjoy these moments of togetherness, fostering a strong sense of community.
Raising and providing for a family of six is undoubtedly a full-time job and then some. However, Jake and Lexi's love for Oakdale and commitment to their family keep them grounded. The Kush family embodies the spirit of Oakdale, where community, love, and a slower pace of life create the perfect environment for raising a family and making lifelong memories.
