Caitlyn and Callie
Caitlyn Shares Her Heartwarming Journey with Callie, the Calico Cat Who Loves to Sing
My family has lived in Oakdale for over 35 years, and I love the sense of community and the pride every resident has for our city.
Callie, my one-year-old (almost two) female calico cat, is a joy. She’s mainly white with patches of orange and black, and she has bright blue eyes. I found her under a car at the Speedway gas station, took her home, and rescued her. I named her Callie not only because she’s a calico, but also because the name suits her. Plus, my cousin's girlfriend is named Callie, and I’ve always enjoyed the name.
Callie has a special bond with me. Every time I sing, she comes to my side and stretches out her arms, wanting to be held. When I’m upset and cry, she crawls into my lap and licks my face to cheer me up. She goes crazy for Churu seafood mix cat treats and loves playing with cardboard boxes.
One of my favorite memories is discovering how much she enjoys my singing. One day, I was on the couch singing, and every time I hit a high note, Callie would sit on my chest. When I stopped singing, she would walk away. Now, every time I sing, she comes to me, purring and meowing, often joining in with her own little "singing."
Callie loves to people-watch from the front lawn or get a high view from the roof. She also has a stray orange cat who seems to be her best friend. I think she would enjoy a pup cup from Starbucks, just like my boyfriend’s dog, Koba.
For those looking to adopt or rescue, I recommend contacting the Oakdale Pet Shelter Alliance, Oakdale Tiny Paws Rescue, or the Astro Foundation.
