For more than 70 years, Soroptimist International of Oakdale has been dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through education, mentorship, and community service. Founded in 1954, the club continues to strengthen Oakdale through scholarships, volunteerism, and meaningful local partnerships.

The organization’s mission is to provide women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Members support programs including the Live Your Dream Awards for women pursuing education while supporting their families, Dream It Be It career workshop for high school girls, Distinguished Young Women, high school scholarships, Tech Trek Science Camp, Holiday Giving, Love Oakdale, Community Baby Shower, and other local initiatives.

Members are drawn to Soroptimist through personal experiences and a desire to give back. Some were inspired after participating in youth programs themselves, while others followed family traditions of service. Regardless of how they joined, all share a commitment to helping women and girls reach their potential.

Over the years, the club has made a lasting impact by building confidence, awarding scholarships, and creating opportunities for future leaders. Members describe the greatest reward as watching women and girls gain the confidence and resources to pursue education, careers, and brighter futures.

Beyond its annual programs, Soroptimist International of Oakdale has invested significantly in the community. Historic contributions include housing for women and children escaping domestic violence, donating the Community Hospice “Light Up a Life” tree, and providing more than $109,000 toward projects such as the Oakdale High School greenhouse, Hannah’s House, and improvements at Guardian House.

This fall, the club will host its Dream It, Be It career program for girls and the 3rd Annual Designer Bag Bingo fundraiser on October 4. The Live Your Dream Award application period opens August 1, and community members are encouraged to attend events, volunteer, or become sponsors. Community support helps the organization award more than $20,000 annually in scholarships and educational assistance.

Above all, members say Soroptimist is about friendship, service, and making a lasting difference in the lives of women, girls, and the Oakdale community.
