The annual Big Paddle Waterfront Festival may not have launched this year, but that didn't stop Ridgefield from making the most of First Saturday.

Out of an abundance of caution due to forecasted thunderstorms, organizers canceled the Big Paddle on Lake River. In true Ridgefield fashion, however, many of the festivities were moved at the last minute to the Greely Building, where community members still gathered for a day of fun and connection.

The Ridgefield Lions Club served food, Hit Machine provided a soundtrack of favorite oldies, and families enjoyed games and activities throughout the event. There was even a beer garden for the adults.

June also marked the kickoff of the Ridgefield Farmers Market in Davis Park, where 36 vendors braved the weather. Another 27 vendors participated in the First Saturday marketplace near the library.

Rain showers and occasional thunder made for a game of hide-and-seek with the weather, but attendees, vendors, and organizers made the best of the conditions and kept the community spirit alive.

While the Big Paddle will have to wait until next year, dragon boats will continue to take to Lake River throughout the summer during public paddling events.
