Layla Melville is a talented and committed multi-sport athlete. That is why she is June’s Athlete of the Month! Layla is in the sophomore 2024 graduating class at Ridgefield High School. She currently is playing club and high school soccer. “I have played soccer since I was 3 years old, which makes it 12 years now.” Layla is also on the school varsity tennis team. She has played tennis since the beginning of high school. “Sports have overall made me a more competitive person and have allowed me to work better with people. It has also made me better at communicating.” Layla’s favorite part about soccer is her teammates. “They are like my best friends as they are always there for me.” Layla’s favorite part about tennis is “getting that really good shot that the opponent can’t get and seeing the look on their face.” “I love the connection and the drive we get as a team from sharing the same love for the sport. I have had lots of coaches who have made [me] a better person on and off of the field,” Layla quotes. Layla’s favorite memory of tennis was during her freshman year, getting to play doubles-one with her older sister, Sophia Melville, who was a senior at the time. “It was a memory that will last a lifetime!” Layla also loved getting to travel with her soccer team to play in California. Outside of school, Layla likes to hang out with friends and family and play other recreational sports. She has lived in Ridgefield for eight years, and before that, she lived in South Dakota and was born in Port Angeles, WA. Layla has one sister, Sophia Melville, who recently graduated from Ridgefield High School. One of Layla’s favorite spots in Ridgefield is both the drive-through and walk-through Wildlife Refuge. After high school, Layla is interested in getting a medical degree and playing tennis in college. Congratulations to Layla Melville for being June’s Athlete of the Month!
