A World of Tradition, Right in Our Neighborhood
Experiencing the meaning of India’s Republic Day through culture, performance, and connection.
India’s Republic Day, celebrated each year on January 26, marks the moment in 1950 when the nation adopted its Constitution and became a sovereign republic, transforming independence into a living framework of rights, democracy, and self-governance. Celebrated by Indians around the world – including here in Bakersfield – it’s a day of pride and reflection, honoring the values of justice, liberty, equality, and unity that shape the country’s identity.
That spirit was on full display at our local celebration, which opened with both the Indian and United States national anthems — a powerful recognition of heritage and citizenship.
The evening unfolded with performance after performance, from the youngest to the eldest in the community: tiny dancers, singers, and both solo and large group routines that filled the room with energy and joy.
In honor of Republic Day, we thought you’d enjoy a few photos from the evening.
