Celebrating 30 Years of Compassionate Care with Agape In-Home Care

For Sandy Muth, owner of Agape In-Home Care, caring for others has always been second nature. “I’ve been doing this my whole life,” she shares with a warm smile. “I started at 18, and now at 50, I still love it. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the difference we make in people’s lives by helping them stay in the comfort of their own homes.”
This April marks a milestone for Agape In-Home Care: 30 years of serving the Kern County community. Sandy has been with the company since its doors first opened and has worn many hats along the way. Starting as an office assistant, she climbed the ranks to become scheduler, then director—a role she held for nearly 25 years. Five years ago, Sandy and her husband were presented with the opportunity of a lifetime: purchasing the business from the previous owners. They embraced the challenge, taking over just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
Rising to the Challenge During a Pandemic
Navigating the uncertainties of COVID-19 wasn’t easy, but Sandy’s dedication to the well-being of her clients and staff never wavered. “It was an eye-opener,” she reflects. “So many people couldn’t visit their loved ones in facilities, but we could be an extension of their family, providing care directly in their homes. It allowed families to visit safely and carefully.”
Agape In-Home Care’s proactive measures, including diligent safety protocols, proved to be effective, with only one case of COVID-19 reported. Best of all, seniors got the care they needed without being exposed to COVID-19 in facilities.
A Legacy of Care
Agape In-Home Care specializes in non-skilled care, offering services that support daily living activities. “Most people don’t need a nurse or medical practitioner—they just need help with things like bathing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and transportation,” Sandy explains. Whether it’s a couple of hours in the morning or full-time, 24-hour care, Agape tailors its services to meet the unique needs of each client.
The company’s two-hour minimum sets it apart from other care providers. “We’re the only company in town offering this flexibility,” Sandy notes. “Sometimes families just need peace of mind knowing someone is there to check on their loved ones, help with meals, or ensure safety during showers.” It’s about providing that companionship and care.
Agape’s caregivers are rigorously screened and matched to clients based on skill level and compatibility. This careful attention to detail has fostered long-term relationships, with some caregivers staying with the company for over 20 years.
“We match our clients to our caregivers,” says Sandy. “We want to make sure that they have the right skill level and make sure that it’s a compatible situation in their home.”
Agape In-Home Care can even provide care for those waiting to move to assisted living facilities. “We can fill the gap while you are waiting to place a loved one,” Sandy points out. “We also work closely with case managers for those who don’t have family in town.” Helping loved ones is what she and her dedicated team do best.
A Grateful Celebration
As Agape In-Home Care celebrates its 30th anniversary, Sandy is filled with gratitude—for the clients, caregivers, and community that have supported the business over the decades. To mark the occasion, the company has redesigned its logo and is planning special events to thank both staff and the community.
“We’ve made it 30 years by being honest, hardworking, and women of our word,” Sandy says. “If we say we’re going to do something, we do it.” Finding out information, calling clients back, and following through is a priority at Agape In-Home Care. It’s customer service and client care at its finest.
Looking Ahead
With an aging population and growing demand for in-home care, Sandy is passionate about educating families on the importance of planning ahead. “People often don’t think about these services until they’re faced with a crisis,” she advises. “Starting early—even if it’s just a few times a month—can make a big difference in the long run.” Getting loved ones used to having a caregiver is essential for long-term success.
As someone caring for aging parents herself, Sandy understands the challenges many families face. It’s about finding the right support to navigate this journey with love and dignity.
After three decades, Agape In-Home Care remains a trusted pillar of the Kern County community, helping loved ones and ensuring a happy and healthy life. Sandy can’t imagine doing anything else. “It’s so rewarding,” she concludes. Making a difference is what it’s all about for her, which she does each and every day.
