This is due to launch later this year, and you will be able to apply directly on the official ETIAS website. 

 

At the same time, Europe is introducing the Entry/Exit System, replacing traditional passport stamps (I loved getting all the stamps in my passport) with biometric screening, including facial recognition and fingerprints. 

 

Across the Channel, the UK has implemented its own system, the Electronic Travel Authorization. For travelers combining London with cities like Paris or Rome, that now means applying for two separate authorizations before departure – something many don’t realize when planning a seemingly simple itinerary. 

 

Beyond entry requirements, travelers are also noticing changes on the ground. Cities like Venice have introduced visitor entry fees during peak periods, while Barcelona and Amsterdam continue to increase nightly tourist taxes. What used to be a minor expense has become a meaningful addition to the overall trip cost. 

 

Access to Europe’s most iconic sites is evolving as well. The Acropolis in Athens now limits daily visitors, and regions like Cinque Terre in Italy have introduced controls to manage crowds and preserve the experience. Even accommodations are shifting, with tighter regulations on platforms like Airbnb reducing availability in many historic city centers.
