For three decades, Stockdale High School has put on the biggest outdoor collectibles show in Kern County. This year's event happened on April 18, but if you missed it, here's why people keep coming back.

The 30th Stockdale High Comic Book and Collectible Show ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school's quad on 2800 Buena Vista Road. Dozens of vendors showed up with comic books, trading cards, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Funko Pops, action figures, anime, manga, board games and all kinds of pop culture memorabilia. When looking around, it was clear that there was something for pretty much everyone. One section called “Creators Corner” featured multiple tents of local artists selling their own work. Additionally, local authors were on hand to sell and sign their books.

This event also included a cosplay contest with prizes, a raffle with nearly $1,000 in donated items and food from a local catering service. A special guest this year was performer Ariel Shiu, who has played a Jawa in several Disney+ Star Wars shows, including "The Mandalorian" and "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Behind it all is Stockdale teacher Tony Valenti, who has kept this show going since its early days with the school's comic book club back in 1994. Over 30 years, the event has grown into something the whole community looks forward to. Funds raised go directly to Stockdale students through ASB and the Pacific Rim Student Association, making it a good time and a good cause all at once.
