Christ's Family Clinic: Providing Healthcare to the Uninsured in our Community

Steven and Katrina Bradford have been volunteering at Christ's Family Clinic for 20 years. Steven serves as the volunteer chairman of the board while Katrina volunteers as the medical director and sees patients twice a month. The couple was drawn to volunteer for Christ's Family Clinic because of the organization's mission to provide healthcare to the uninsured in the community. By helping patients stay healthy, they are enabling them to continue providing for their own needs and their families' needs. Katrina states, “Our patients would go without health care if they were not able to receive it from us.”   The couple believes that healing the sick was one of the fundamental missions of Jesus, and by assisting the clinic, they hope to fulfill that mission.

Katrina says, “While we do not receive any financial compensation for our work with Christ's Family Clinic, we are enriched by the appreciation and thankfulness expressed by the patients we serve.”  Those interested in getting involved with the organization can find information on their website (www.christsfamilyclinic.org), where they primarily need clinical volunteers such as doctors, nurses, and medical assistants, as well as financial support from private individuals and organizations.

The Bradfords have been living in University Park since marrying in 2001. They decided to move here because they wanted to live in a safe community with excellent schools for their children, and because they love the small-town feel of the community.

Steven and Katrina have two sons. Harrison, who is currently a junior at Highland Park High School, and Charlton, who is a freshman. Both boys have been heavily involved in organizing fundraising events for Christ's Family Clinic, and they have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which necessitates significant community service. Additionally, they have both been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award. Harrison was given the Bronze Scot Service Award from Highland Park High School last year, and Charlton will earn one this year. Both are members of the Young Men's Service League, where they have participated in various community service projects for Voice of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, Brother Bill's Food Pantry, and other community service organizations.

“I hope others reading this will consider getting involved with Christ's Family Clinic, whether through volunteering their time and skills or making a financial contribution. The Clinic is making a real difference in the lives of those who may not have access to healthcare otherwise”, states Steven.
