Lola and Sophie
Wash Park is one of those places where having a dog feels essential. For the past few years, two delightful Mini Aussiedoodles, Lola (age 3) and Sophie (age 1), fulfill just that for the Wetmore family.
Though both are Mini Aussiedoodles, Lola and Sophie are quite different. Lola is quiet and docile, enjoying "Snifaris," where she tracks out scents rather than other dogs. Sophie is more like an Australian Shepherd; energetic and with a strong herding instinct, she loves to meet and play with everyone.
The hypoallergenic breed of smaller dogs fit well in the Wetmore bungalow. Lola was the first, with Sophie joining later as a companion for Lola’s second birthday. Initially, it seemed Lola was lonely, but it turned out to be her "resting doodle face." Now, the two adore each other’s company.
Lola was named after a white lab who belonged to the family’s sprinkler technician, and Sophie’s name suits her lively personality. Lola is quick to ask for belly rubs and is known for her "Fancy Paws" habit of crossing her front paws. Sophie has red merle markings and a mournful howl, often barking at dogs on TV.
Both love bully sticks and playing tug and fetch, though reluctant to drop the ball. A favorite memory is bringing Sophie home and seeing Lola’s gentle excitement as she greeted her tiny four-pound sister. Their first meeting is captured in a heartwarming photo.
The girls love walking around Smith Lake, and their favorite playmate is their neighbor's cat, Parker. They enjoy visits to Urban Dogg for grooming and Wash Perk for treats. Their dream adventure would be hiking their top favorites, Meyer Ranch Park in Jefferson County and Chautauqua Park in Boulder.
For the Wetmore family, life in Wash Park is enriched by the joy and companionship of Lola and Sophie, making neighborhood adventures all the more special.
