Celebrating Championships: Adult Athletes in Wash Park

Mom troupe Courtney Wells, Ashley Stevens, Kat Loveland, Calley Rigg, and Ali Comeaux recently took their love of basketball to the next level, having recently won The Basketball Social House's 3v3 championship game. As their team Midlife Mavericks gears up for another successful season of fun, team player Courtney shared with us a bit about their story, in hopes of inspiring other women.

Q: What inspired you to form the Midlife Mavericks basketball team?
A: We all share a deep love for the game that dates back to our high school years. When the opportunity arose to join a 3-on-3 league at The Basketball Social House, we jumped at the chance to relive those memories and create new ones together.

Q: Can you tell us about your backgrounds in basketball?
A: Each of us played basketball in high school, and some of us even continued playing at the collegiate level. We have alumni from Dartmouth and the College of St. Benedict among our ranks, so you could say basketball runs in our veins.

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in Denver?
A: Denver has been our home for quite some time now, and we absolutely adore the sense of community here. Raising our kids amidst Denver's vibrant neighborhoods, excellent schools, and expansive parks has been an enriching experience for us all.

Q: How does playing basketball together as a team benefit you as working parents?
A: Playing together offers us a much-needed break from the everyday routine of work and parenting. It allows us to switch things up midweek and escape the endless cycle of sports carpools. Plus, the camaraderie and competition on the court inject a dose of excitement into our lives.

Q: What makes The Basketball Social House such a special venue for your games?
A: The Basketball Social House not only provides top-notch facilities for our league but also fosters a sense of community with its bar and restaurant. After the games, we love to unwind and catch up over a beer, further strengthening our bonds off the court.

Q: How do you balance parenthood and sports?
Our commitment to the once a week games (we play two games each night) allows us to plan ahead with the juggling act of kids sports. We all look forward to our game nights!

Q: What advice would you give to other women?
Staying active and playing a sport that you love with others that have the same passion gives us more energy and it's also the positive environment that brings so much joy! We're going to keep encouraging other women to create teams and grow this league!
