Megan Lane Finds Her Perfect Career

When Megan Lane graduated from Bellevue High School, her parents encouraged her to go to college. As she says, "They are realists and advised me to study for a degree because you never know what may happen in the future!” In all fairness, though, Megan also didn't want to miss out on the college experience so decided to attend Washington State University in Pullman. "I am very thankful to my parents for supporting me,” she adds.

Megan started as a Fashion major which she expected to love as she describes herself as “a very girly girl - I love clothes, and hair, and makeup!” However, she did not love the course and switched to communications. “But when I graduated in the fall of 2022, I knew I did not want to pursue a career related to my communications degree, either, which made me start to think realistically about what I did want to do as my lifework!”

Always fascinated and intrigued with hair and beauty, Megan searched online for beauty schools and found Evergreen Beauty College in Renton, about a ten-minute drive from where she lives in Enatai. “You learn the basics of hair, makeup, nails, and a little bit of skincare,” Megan explains, “and I am continuing my training as a hairstylist at House of Hebe in Bellevue.” She has now completed five months of color training and is skilled in both male and female haircuts. “I am excited to announce I am ready to take on clients,” Megan enthuses.

“I aim to provide a service to clients where they feel comfortable and loved, and walk out feeling pretty on the inside and outside,” Megan continues, “so when I have a client in the chair I like to tap into their emotions and connect with them on a deeper level than just what they want out of their hair physically.”

She joined the salon as a new stylist, she felt she would be well-trained and looked after. She also connected well with everyone. “We have fun together during the day, always laughing and enjoying ourselves,” she says, “and that is important to me in a work setting.”

Megan admits starting her career as a hairstylist was scary. “Growing up in Bellevue and attending Bellevue High School, I felt peer pressure to do something corporate and have a big successful corporate career. That’s the vibe in my high school, although I never felt that pressure from my parents, who have supported my decision to go to beauty school and become a hairstylist.”

She concludes, “There aren't very many of us from Bellevue High that have decided to have a career in the beauty industry. But I would say, always push yourself to do something that you're passionate about. I think it's important to follow your heart and do what you love."
