Spring for Schools 2026!

On March 14th, the Bellevue Schools Foundation hosted its annual Spring for Schools auction, bringing together community members in support of Bellevue’s local public schools. While the event itself marks a moment of generosity and celebration, its purpose is so much more than a single night. Spring for Schools exists because many of the resources that shape student success are not fully covered by traditional public school funding.

In a district like Bellevue, it is easy to assume that strong schools automatically mean fully funded schools. High academic performance and a strong reputation can create the impression that all student needs are already being met. In reality, much of what supports students’ academic growth and overall wellbeing happens behind the scenes and often outside the scope of traditional public funding. Programs focused on mental health, early learning, and computer science education are frequently categorized as supplemental, even though they play a critical role in helping students succeed at every stage of their education. These programs support skills and systems that go beyond test scores, preparing students for a better future mentally and academically.

This is where the work of the Bellevue Schools Foundation becomes essential. Through Spring for Schools, funds raised are directed toward programs that might otherwise be limited or unavailable. Mental health resources, for example, have a direct impact on students’ academic performance and overall wellbeing, yet access to counselors and wellness support is often constrained. Early learning programs help students build foundational skills that set them up for long-term success, while access to computer science education prepares students for an increasingly digital future. Without targeted support, these opportunities can quietly disappear, even in high performing districts such as Bellevue.

What makes Spring for Schools especially important is how directly and quickly it can respond to the needs schools are seeing in real time. Because this funding exists outside the district’s standard budget, it offers flexibility that traditional public funding often cannot. Instead of waiting through lengthy budget approvals or policy changes, resources raised through Spring for Schools can be directed toward programs that schools themselves identify as priorities. This allows support to reach students when it is most effective, whether that means expanding access to mental health services, sustaining early learning programs, or strengthening computer science opportunities. In practice, this responsiveness can make the difference between a program being delayed or not offered at all, and one that is available when students need it most.

Donations are what make this work possible. As an independent nonprofit, the Bellevue Schools Foundation relies entirely on community support to fund these programs. Contributions to Spring for Schools directly sustain initiatives that support student wellbeing, readiness, and equity across Bellevue schools. Rather than enhancing an already strong system for appearance’s sake, the donations that are made through Spring for Schools helps to ensure that essential opportunities remain accessible to students throughout the community.
