Bellevue High Boys' Golf Team Ends the Season as KINGCO Champs!

The Bellevue High School golf 2022-23 season included 11 boys who were led by coach Scott Didrickson and assistant coach, Joe Botkins. Coach Scott is as solid as they come. He is the force behind the team, teaching his team members to work hard, be good people, and do the right thing. Coach Joe is supporting the boys on the course and guiding them with useful feedback.
The team had one senior, Jimmy Grieve, who was also a co-captain. Thinking back on the season, he shared, “Bellevue High School golf was a great experience for everyone involved. We came to the sport from different grades at school, and maybe even different friend groups, but when we were at practice or a match, we were one team of very supportive, golf-loving athletes. Everyone on the team got along so well and we cheered for each other and had a ton of fun. Our coaches taught us a lot, not only about golf but about the mentality it takes to finish a great round. We learned a lot from the coaches and I loved their competitive spirit! Seeing the various courses around Seattle and Bellevue was especially cool, and I realize there is a lot of great golf to be had in the area."
The team ended the season as undefeated KINGCO champs with first-team All-KINGCO honors going to Owen Otto and Eric Zhang. Second team went to Toby Moore, and honorable mention went to Phoebus Chen. The regular season for boys' golf runs through the fall, with the State competition happening in May. Owen Otto, Toby Moor, Phoebus Chen, Rowan Gerron, and Dylan Kooner finished 7th in the State championship held at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club.
Unfortunately, Eric Zhang was out with an injury but the team hopes to have him back this season. With a 7th place finish, and ten of the players returning, the team is excited for this season. Toby Moore, one of the three captains for the 2023-2024 season reflects on last year and what he hopes for this season:
“It was awesome to see the team grow. Everyone has become such great friends which I think will lead us to a great season and, hopefully, a State championship.”
Keep your eyes out for this team, as good things are ahead!
