Rwanda Girls Initiative 5K Proves More Successful than Ever in 2023

The 2023 Rwanda Girls Initiative (RGI) 5K Fun Run was held on a beautiful Sunday morning in September. The race started at Fairweather Park in Medina and the route proceeded over the 520 bridge and back. There were 130 runners, 3 dogs, and numerous volunteers that helped make this year's event another success.

The Fun Run proceeds go to support the Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology in Rwanda, which was founded by local residents, Suzanne "Soozi" McGill and Shalisan "Shal" Foster.

This year's event co-chairs, teen sisters Ally and Charlotte Eichenberger, were proud to help empower girls their age in another part of the world. "Thanks to all of our sponsors and those that came out to support such a great cause," said Ally.

As the sun set over Bellevue, the 2023 RGI 5K Fun Run left behind a trail of inspiration and positivity. The funds raised will continue to enable girls in Rwanda, providing them with the tools to shape their own destinies. It's a perfect example of how the West Bellevue community has an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
