Lovely Living Homes: Organizing With Heart

Lovely Living Homes was born from a passing idea from Laura Ghera’s nanny, Abby. Laura said they spent time together organizing spaces in her home, so when Abby suggested she start her own business helping others declutter and organize their homes — and her husband didn’t balk at the idea — she decided to go for it.

The company officially launched in the spring of 2022. Laura and Abby began by organizing friends’ pantries and basements, and before long, she had a steady stream of business.

She took her already established skills and built on them by completing a Clutterbug certification course, developed by Cassandra Aarssen, professional organizer and author of “Real Life Organizing.” She also routinely reads books on the topic and watches home organizing shows to gather new ideas.

Her services include decluttering and organizing; decorating; and pre and post moving help. As a working mom of two, she especially enjoys working with those who are expecting or who have young families.

“I think many moms feel pressure to do it all; to have balance. When you add in the pandemic, we’ve all been through a lot the past few years,” she said. “Any time I can remove some of that mental load from moms… that’s really the heart of my business.”

What sets Lovely Living Homes apart is the personal connections Laura makes with each and every client. She spends time getting to know her clients – many of whom become good friends – before suggesting any organization systems or selecting items for a room makeover.

She said, “My services aren’t cookie cutter. No client is the same; I’m going to organize your kid’s room for your kid.”

She aims to make the systems she puts in place for clients sustainable as well, not just for the sake of being organized but for the other benefits it provides.

“It’s about more than just organizing a drawer. Having function in a home and beautifying your home is so important so that you have the space for the things that actually matter, whether it’s physical, such as a piece of your grandmother’s china, or enjoying a meal with your kids, playing the piano, or sitting with your husband,” said Laura.

A recent client couldn’t agree more. She said: “This afternoon Eli was playing quietly down in the basement. I worked out, and I didn’t feel crazed or stressed by everything in the house. I wasn’t tripping over stuff or trying to clear a tiny space to work out. A year ago, none of this would have happened! I feel truly and deeply thankful that we found you and for all the light that you have brought to us.”

What brings Laura the most joy is helping people. Decluttering and moving can be very emotional events in people’s lives. She said the fact that people trust her enough to be vulnerable and invite her into these moments means so much.

When she’s not helping others achieve a sense of peace in their homes, she’s creating memories with her own family, including her husband, two sons, Jacob, a third grader, and Hunter, a first grader, and their three cats. One of her favorite traditions is simply eating dinner together, often at the formal dining room table at Jacob’s request. She is also a Swiftie and attended not one but two Taylor Swift concerts this summer.
