Harbor View Parent Faculty Organization

Working Together to Provide an A+ Education for our Vikings!

Many thanks to Co-Presidents Kate Gresham and Jennifer Jackson for their dedication to Harbor View.

At the heart of Harbor View Elementary School is a strong partnership between educators, families, and the greater community. At the center of that partnership is the Harbor View Parent Faculty Organization (HVPFO), which plays a vital role in enriching the educational experience of every student, supporting academic achievement, creativity, and overall well-being. The HVPFO is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. While similar to a traditional PTA, the HVPFO operates independently of any national organization, allowing flexibility to respond directly to the unique needs of Harbor View students and staff so the organization can focus its resources where they make the greatest impact.

One of the strengths of the HVPFO is its dedicated 14 Executive Board members, made up entirely of parents who generously volunteer their time and talents. Each board member plays a key role in supporting the school through clearly defined areas of focus, ensuring the HVPFO operates with transparency, organization, and purpose.

The Executive Board has monthly board and school-wide General Meetings that are joined by Ms. Ericastilla as the teacher representative and Principal Lempert. The board is led by Co-Presidents who provide overall leadership and work closely with school administration and the Newport-Mesa Unified School District to align priorities and programs. Communications oversees newsletters, calendars, and updates. Social Media and Public Relations is responsible for capturing campus happenings and sharing school news. Ways & Means leads sponsorships and fundraising partnerships. Secretary maintains official meeting records. Vice Presidents of Treasury manages financial operations and reporting. Membership supports room parents, volunteers, and family engagement. Finally, Community Outreach builds relationships with local businesses, leads charitable initiatives, and plans school assemblies.

Board members work closely with various parent volunteer committees such as the Jog-A-Thon, Read-A-Thon, Gingerbread House Night, Teacher Appreciation, School Musical, Room Parents, Parents Night Out Gala, and many more throughout the year.

Thanks entirely to parent and community funding, the HVPFO supports programs that are essential to Harbor View’s educational goals. These include three credentialed teachers who provide targeted reading and math support, an Innovation Lab technology teacher for STEM enrichment, art education programming, a physical education teacher for transitional kindergarten through second grade, educational software and classroom supplies, as well as beloved programs such as the school play and track team. These offerings help ensure every child benefits from a well-rounded education that nurtures both academic growth and personal development.

The HVPFO fosters a strong sense of connection through school-wide events and enrichment programs that welcome family participation. Whether volunteering at an event, serving on a committee, or supporting fundraising efforts, every contribution strengthens each student’s journey at Harbor View. The HVPFO warmly invites new volunteers and community partners to get involved. Together, we can create an environment where students thrive, families feel connected, and the entire community plays a role in shaping public education.
