The Lawson Family

We’re the Lawson family. Zach and Megan were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways, found their way back to each other, and built a life together in California before returning home to the Texas Hill Country. Now married with three children—Oliver (12), Soren (8), and Vivienne (4)—we’re also chasing after our energetic six-month-old Australian Shepherd puppy, Perla. Life is full, busy, and exactly where we’re meant to be.

We both grew up in the Boerne Hill Country area, so this part of Texas has always felt like home. We moved to California for Megan to attend graduate school at Pepperdine University, then returned to San Antonio and lived downtown in a charming old cottage. As our family grew, we outgrew that space and moved to Fair Oaks Ranch during the COVID-19 pandemic—first to Midnight Sun and now to Deer Meadows. We plan to stay here long term and love the balance of community, safety, and nature, with the convenience of being close to the city.

We met during a one-year overlap at Boerne High School, where we were both athletes—Zach played football for the Greyhounds, and Megan played basketball. We crossed paths during after-school athletics and had to get each other’s names through friends. We dated briefly before Megan transferred to TMI for the remainder of high school, then reconnected for a time in college while Megan was at UT Austin and Zach was at UTSA. After Megan moved to California for graduate school, Zach reached out to visit—and that visit changed everything. We’ve been together ever since, married in 2014, and are grateful for all the chapters that brought us here, with this one being the sweetest yet.

Zach earned his bachelor’s degree from UTSA and has worked for Tesla for nearly a decade and currently serves in business development for Tesla Charging. He briefly became a local celebrity when he received one of the first Tesla Cybertrucks in the U.S. and drove it around town and through the neighborhood. He loves his work and genuinely believes in Tesla’s mission. In addition, Zach is opening a Project Lean Nation franchise, a health-focused meal prep and nutrition concept centered on convenient, macro-balanced meals. His first location in Leon Springs is expected to open in 2026!

Megan, known professionally as Dr. Lawson, is a board-certified clinical psychologist. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a major in psychology and a minor in business. She went on to complete a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and later earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Pepperdine as well.

After co-owning and helping grow a group practice in San Antonio, Megan chose to branch out on her own and open a boutique, depth-oriented practice in Boerne called Lawson Psychology Practice. She works with children, adults, couples, and families, and also conducts psychological evaluations. Megan currently serves as President of the San Antonio Psychoanalytic Society, sits on the board of the San Antonio Group Psychotherapy Society, and chairs a Special Interest Group for APA Division 53 focused on child and adolescent psychology. She has a deep respect for the complexity of people and is passionate about helping individual, couples, families, and systems understand themselves and each other more fully.

Our kids are the brightest part of our lives. Oliver is 12 and a sixth grader at Voss Elementary. Born in California, he’s a devoted LA Rams fan who loves playing sports and exploring the neighborhood with friends. Soren is 8 and in third grade at Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School, where he’s known for his love of swimming and basketball. Vivienne is 4 and attends preschool at The Nest Nature School; she’s happiest outside, creating art and discovering the world around her. As a family, we spend a lot of time at Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club—swimming, playing golf and tennis, enjoying community events, and connecting with friends. Both boys attend Camp Longhorn in the summer!

Oliver is similar to Zach in his factual knowledge. When he gets into something, he wants to learn everything! Right now, he is especially interested in cars. He has a hilarious sense of humor and keeps us laughing. When Oliver isn't home, it's too quiet. Soren is extremely independent and also loving. He loves playing with Perla and is an expert when it comes to dinosaurs (and also cars, too!). He likes watching the Spurs play and is constantly making inventions with random objects in his room. Vivienne is the resident artist. If you visit our house, you'll see dozens of paintings, colorful with glitter and jewels that are all her! She is imaginative and loves expressing herself through art, clothing, and play!

Zach is a wealth of information when it comes to history, politics, geography, and science. He also plays the guitar and is devoted to daily exercise. He is definitely the guy you would want to bring to trivia night! Megan has a special interest in gardening and loves working with plants. She is always propagating succulents or coming home with bags of dirt and planting ideas. She also loves looking at real estate for fun and spends too much time on real estate apps looking at property all over the world.

We are a dog family. After losing our beloved toy Australian Shepherd, Chuck, last year after a long, happy life with our family, we welcomed Perla, our six-month-old full-sized Australian Shepherd puppy. She’s full of energy, keeping us all on our toes as we work to train her and help her settle into family life—and she’s already a huge bundle of love.

We’re pretty traditional in how we celebrate holidays, but we’ve added a few fun traditions of our own. One favorite—thanks to Megan’s mom—is “50-cent corndog night” on Halloween. Deer Meadows gets wonderfully chaotic during trick-or-treating, so it’s fun to come home to a silly, comforting tradition each year. We love watching Fourth of July fireworks at the club and driving around on our golf cart to admire the Christmas lights around the neighborhood. Both of our families live nearby, which is one of the main reasons we wanted to move back home. Having our parents—and our kids’ grandparents—close by makes the holidays especially meaningful. More than anything, we love celebrating the people in our lives and our community, whether that’s sports (Formula 1, Go Spurs Go, and Hook ’Em!), birthdays, or special moments big and small.

We love the Moonlight Concerts at Cibolo and catching Brad Blackburn play locally at Fralo’s. The summer concerts at the club are another favorite. Anywhere the kids can run free while we enjoy good food and live music is a win for our family. We also love shopping locally on Main Street and supporting local businesses—and we’re endlessly grateful to be back in the land of H-E-B!

Zach loves golfing and takes advantage of the driving range whenever he can. Megan enjoys the tennis clinics and meeting friends for dinner at the club. Both boys have participated in swim team and golf, and Oliver and his neighborhood friends can often be found fishing together at the nearby creek. It’s a special part of life for our family to be so connected to the community and outdoors.

Giving back is something we both care about. Megan has done a speaking event for the National Charity League on the importance of female friendships and has helped out in different PTO roles at the kids’ schools. Zach has volunteered as an assistant coach for local sports teams. We also support Aid the Silent and love being part of a community that shows up for one another.

One night Oliver asked if he could have a sleepover with some neighborhood friends—and we happily said yes. We didn’t realize that meant twelve preteen boys (and a plus one little brother for Soren!). Suddenly there were bikes and sleeping bags everywhere, trampoline wrestling, and late-night swims. It was wild, messy, and honestly perfect—a sweet reminder of why we love raising our kids here and the kind of childhood we want them to have.
