Mico, The Alaskan Malamute

Mico, an Alaskan Malamute is the pride and joy of the Parkey family (Stella (12), Ben, and Allison). A giant dog made for sled pulling with a golden heart is how they define him. He’s two and a half years old and has already made many memories in his family.

The Parkeys had two pets at the same time; when their other dog passed away three years ago they needed another one. At first, they wanted a Husky, but after a bit of research, they found that they’re lots of work. After even more research, they decided to get an Alaskan Malamute. They’re almost the same size as a Husky, and they require much less work.

Mico is a giant but he’s still very gentle, and funny! Every time he hears a siren from a police car, a fire truck, or an ambulance, he always starts howling with it. There have been many cases with the Parkeys are on the highway when a siren goes by, and Mico just starts howling.

Mico was named after the Kansas City Chiefs (Ben grew up in Kansas City). They also wanted to honor his heritage, so they took Chief, and translated it to Alaskan which leads you to Mico.

In February of 2022 during the freeze, Stella got to ride on a sled pulled by Mico because he is a sled dog. He went so fast that Ben could barely keep up with them! The Parkeys say that he is very spoiled and that he makes them laugh a lot. All in all, Mico makes their family full!
