Families First - New Addition to Moraga Scout Troop 234
Before the reality of a 60lb. pack hits you
Moraga Troop 234 was first charted as a Scout Troop back in 1985 which is the same year that Back to the Future hit the movie theaters. Seems like yesterday but we just celebrated our 40th anniversary!
Family Troops became an option starting December 15, 2025 and allows eligible boys and girls to register and participate together in a single, unified troop under one Scoutmaster and one troop committee. There are currently no troops in Moraga that have an option for girls and so our committee made the decision in April 2026, to recharter and become a Family Troop. The hope is girls no longer need to travel outside of Moraga to find a scout troop and can now join Troop 234.
Our scouts recently returned from a 2 week back packing trip at Philmont and every scout said it was an experience they would never forget. The next Philmont trip is in very early planning for 2028 and there were over 14,000 scouts going through Philmont this summer.
To make the Moraga 234 Family Troop a reality we do need Women Assistant Scout Masters as volunteers, and if you love the outdoors, it's a great way to get out with entire family. If you are interested in joining the Family Troop or finding out more, email moragatroop234@gmail.com We have a fantastic meeting location in central Moraga at the Hacienda de Las Flores, meeting on Tuesdays. There is plenty of parking and the open space is excellent for all those scouting skills like pitching tents, using a compass and many more.
