Joe McGrath Celebrates 43 Years at Steves Chevrolet

Joe reflects on the teamwork, accountability, and customer relationships that have defined his career at Steves Chevrolet.

After 43 years at Steves Chevrolet, Joe McGrath reflects on teamwork, accountability and the relationships that make a career meaningful.
Since joining Steves Chevrolet on February 1, 1983, Joe McGrath has built his 43-year career around a straightforward principle: Treat the business as if it were your own.
For Joe, that means holding yourself accountable, supporting your team, and treating every customer the way you would want to be treated. It is a philosophy he now works to pass along to younger generations entering the automotive industry.
The most rewarding moments often happen beyond the dealership. When a longtime customer’s child goes away to college and encounters a vehicle problem, the family knows whom to call for guidance.
“The feeling of trust and respect from your customers is overwhelming,” Joe said.
Over four decades, his work has also offered lessons that extend into everyday life. Learning to understand different personalities and individual needs has helped him create a more balanced workplace and become a more thoughtful person outside of it.
Each day, Joe arrives with a smile and a belief that “if I’m early, I’m late.” He also never forgets that every employee is part of a team.
Being recognized as someone who represents the best of Steves Chevrolet is a meaningful honor, particularly after a career spent serving the business and its customers. His advice to anyone beginning a new career is equally direct: Never stop learning, take advantage of every training opportunity, and never back down from a challenge.
“If you fail the first time,” Joe said, “you won’t the second time.”
