In June, the City of Ridgefield began construction on the Eastside Elevated Water Reservoir, a project that will add a 2.5-million-gallon elevated water reservoir to the city's water system. The two-year project will strengthen water system reliability, improve fire flow capacity, and stabilize the city's high-pressure zone to support anticipated growth.

On June 1, Mayor Matt Cole joined City Councilmembers, project partners, contractors, and City staff to celebrate the milestone and recognize the years of planning that brought the project to construction during a ceremonial groundbreaking.

"This reservoir is a long-term investment in Ridgefield's future," said Mayor Cole. "Water infrastructure is foundational to our community. While residents may not see every component of the system every day, they depend on it constantly. This project helps ensure we can continue to provide reliable service to residents and businesses while preparing for the growth ahead."

The Eastside Elevated Water Reservoir will more than double the city's water storage capacity from 2 million to 4.5 million gallons. Ridgefield operates a looped water distribution system in which water is treated at well sites before entering the distribution network that serves homes and businesses and stores water in reservoirs. In addition to providing storage, reservoirs help maintain adequate water pressure throughout the system.

Construction includes site grading, earthwork, landscaping and irrigation, security and operational systems, stormwater facilities, and utility improvements.

"Everything we do here is about creating place and creating a sense of belonging," said Mayor Cole. "This project will do that through a large mural featuring the word 'Ridgefield' and the city's signature sandhill crane silhouette painted on the side of the reservoir, creating a visible community landmark on the skyline."

The project complements the City's long-range planning efforts and supports anticipated population and employment growth. Through the Comprehensive Plan update process, Ridgefield is planning for approximately 10,000 additional residents and 8,000 new jobs by 2045.
