A Very Hoppy Day

Bunnies, balloons, 4500 eggs, and a neighborhood that knows how to celebrate together.

One of those “this is why we live here” mornings unfolded at Belcourt Park … blue skies, a little spring breeze, and about 200 kids vibrating with excitement like shaken soda cans ready to pop.
Because waiting for the official “go” might just be the hardest part of childhood.

Across the field? 4,500 Easter eggs. Yes … four thousand five hundred. Scattered like colorful confetti across a wide, sunlit lawn, just daring little sneakers to race toward them.

Parents lined the edges, phones in hand, already laughing, already knowing – this was going to be chaos in the very best way.
And then it happened.
The signal.
The stampede.

Baskets swung wildly, kids zig-zagged like professional athletes (or at least very determined squirrels), and within minutes, that giant field looked like it had been magically cleared … vacuumed clean … nothing left. Overflowing baskets?  Mission accomplished.

Oh … but the fun did not stop there.

The park turned into a full-on neighborhood festival. Treats and smiles came courtesy of favorites like 502 Coffee, Kona Ice, Mr. Dimples Food & Ice Cream, Mokhamena by Mokha Café, and Vecchio’s Gelateria – because what’s an egg hunt without something delicious in hand?

Meanwhile, faces became masterpieces thanks to our neighbor Claire Moawad, balloons twisted into just about everything imaginable by Happy Twisting, and families lined up for photos at a beautiful backdrop created by Happy Reign Designs.  The Hoop Bakersfield mobile game trailer was busy all morning long with kids – both young and “older” – trying their best to sink free throw after free throw.

And of course … the stars of the show. Danielle, our beloved Easter Bunny, handing out hugs like candy. And yes, even an Easter Dog made a guest appearance (thank you, Dogtopia), proving once and for all that this holiday is for everyone.

Behind the scenes, an army of smiling student volunteers from Stockdale High School made the magic happen, alongside incredible community sponsors like Bolthouse Properties, Centric Primary Care, Mercedes-Benz of Bakersfield, Valley Strong Credit Union, Apex Management, Synchrony Medical, Dogtopia of Bakersfield… as well as your friends at Greet magazine.

Because events like this don’t just happen. They’re built by a community that shows up.

And if the laughter, the sugar rush, and the slightly grass-stained knees were any indication … we’d say it was a pretty perfect day.
