A Taste of Peru at La Mar Bellevue

Bringing the vibrant, coastal flavors of Peru to the Eastside, La Mar Bellevue recently hosted Greet West Bellevue and Greet Mercer Island, along with residents and business partners from the community, for a memorable evening. The event offered a chance to experience the restaurant’s menu in a setting that effortlessly blends energy with elegance, introducing a space designed not just for dining, but for connection.

From the moment you step inside, La Mar strikes a balance between relaxed and refined. Inspired by the traditional Peruvian cebichería, the space leans into natural textures and oceanic elements with subtle nods to coral, fish scales, and coastal rock formations. The design creates an easygoing atmosphere while still feeling polished, whether seated indoors or on the open-air patio. At the heart of the restaurant is the cebiche bar and raw seafood display, anchoring the room and reinforcing its connection to the sea. The open kitchen adds movement and energy, giving the space a distinctly communal feel.

The menu reflects the depth and diversity of Peruvian cuisine, expressed through a lens that feels both refined and approachable. Cebiches offer a bright, citrus-driven introduction, while tiraditos and causas highlight the precision and creativity behind each dish. The focus on high-quality ingredients, many sourced locally, brings a clean, vibrant clarity to the flavors.

Behind the concept is acclaimed chef Gastón Acurio, whose work has helped bring Peruvian cuisine to the global stage. In Bellevue, that vision is carried forward by Executive Chef Kaoru Chang, whose approach reflects both the integrity of the cuisine and the influence of the Pacific Northwest. The bar program complements the experience with a focus on pisco-based cocktails, highlighting Peru’s signature spirit in drinks that feel both refreshing and rooted in tradition.

La Mar Bellevue has been recognized by The Seattle Times with Gold for Best New Restaurant, along with additional honors from 425 Magazine and Visit Bellevue, underscoring its growing presence on the Eastside. More than anything, the restaurant stands out for how naturally it brings people together, offering an experience that feels both transportive and firmly connected to its community.
